Donna Roberts (Pa.)
Donna is Teddy’s “Mama”. Teddy came into her life at time when she needed him most. Teddy traveled from the mid-west to Deptford, NJ.
where he chose his new Mama at the “Puppy Playpen”. Every day after work Donna would go to visit him for hours to put a smile back on her face.
She was told by the owners of Puppy Playpen, that he would know at 5:00 p.m. she would be there, and Teddy would sit in the store window and wait for her car to show up.
Whenever she arrived he would run around the store excited to greet her. Until one day when the owners knew Teddy had to go home with Donna, The rest is history.
Teddy and Donna traveled everywhere together, and did everything together. She made him a promise that not a day would go by that she would ever forget,
that it was her responsibility to care for him by any means possible.
Donna has had a deep love for all animals from as early as she can remember. She has had many, many “babies” in her life, and the passing of each one has been of course,
an added sadness, but also inspiration to the conception of TBC. But not until her loss of Teddy was she so compelled to take her love of animals and especially him,
to take it to that level... to keep the legacy of Teddy alive. Donna feels that ALL animals have the right to the best possible life that can be provided,
and when an animal is brought into a home, that “baby" becomes a member of the family forever, and should be treated as such.
Donna has such respect and love of animals and belives that even in loss that they should be held with the same respect.
Some do not understand her when she sees a wounded animal in the road, and will stop to take it to a hospital for treatment, But that’s who she is.
She will stop for any animal that she comes upon lost, and try to find their home.
TBC has been long time coming for her, and currently she works with the entire Board to secure the mission, and works with the local community for marketing,
helped to design the Teddy Awards, worked on the physical construction of the building, and currently is working with the Board on new inventive ideas
to strengthen the legacy of her boy, to help others in need.
During the TBC/PIHT first annual talent show she was presented with an ever-lasting gift from the student body that pictures Teddy surrounded by a heart necklace.
On the back they had it engraved: “I love you to the moon and back”. This was what she always told Teddy whenever she had to leave him for work or school.
Today that saying is her hope for all that are helped through TBC. “Mama loves Teddy to the moon, and back again..forever".
